Birhan Integrated Community Development Organization (BICDO) formerly known as Jemal Abdella Ato Jemal Abdella, Executive Director Aid for the Needy Organization (JAAFNO), was founded by Ato Jemal Abdella, the Executive Director, his colleagues and friends in March 1995. It was renamed as BICDO in May 1997. The naming of the organization is referring the following corresponding meanings of abbreviated concepts.
Birhan: Bright futurity with full of hope for better living of the poor community.
Integrated: Integration, Cooperation, and Partnership (Programs & Community)
Community: To serve more than an individual
Development: Over all improvement in life/well being of the community
Organization: Having system, Accountability and legality BICDO is a not for profit, non-religious, non-political and non-partisan indigenous non-governmental organization. BICDO commenced its activities with only 3 staffs and the support of its board members and volunteers. At time of establishment in 1995, BICDO commenced its activities in one room office provided by Keble 06 of Woreda 1. Since then, it has been making strenuous effort to build its capacity and strengthen its management, and accordingly expanding its operational areas as stated on its mission.
